Shirt/Shorts Draw & Auction 2016

Ayr United are holding their annual Shirt/Shorts and Auction night on Friday 8th July. The popular event will be held in the Ally MacLeod Hospitality Suite and begin at 7.30pm.

With the club achieving promotion to the Championship it means that we will have more exposure than ever before with clubs like Hibernian, Dundee United and St Mirren visiting Somerset Park regularly throughout the season. We can also expect a lot more newspaper and television coverage as well as much larger crowds.

The event gives businesses, organisations, groups of fans or individuals a unique and relatively inexpensive opportunity to advertise on the back of the Ayr United team shirts and on the shorts for the 2016/17 season for just £150.

All entrants will receive two tickets for the event which includes a complimentary buffet and a welcome drink. All entrants will also receive their name/company name featured in every matchday programme and on the club website.

The prize list is as follows.

Players released

Two of the promotion winning squad will not be with the club moving into the Championship.

Defender Andy Graham, who scored the winning penalty in the play off final, has not had his contract renewed. Manager Ian McCall said “Andy is not just a top professional but he is a top guy as well. He was an integral part of us winning promotion this season  and I would like to wish him all the very best for the future.”

Alan Trouten had one year left on his deal however he has left the club by mutual consent. Everyone at the club would like to wish Alan all the very best in the future.

United sign Cairney

Paul Cairney is Ian McCall’s first new signing of the Summer as he constructs his squad for a new season in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Cairney, 28, was a huge player for Stranraer as they lost out on penalties in the play off final. His previous clubs include Queens Park, Partick Thistle and Hibernian.

The manager said :”Paul is a player I know well. I had him at Partick Thistle where he was one of the best players in the championship which is why Hibs signed him. I think it’s fair to say that he lost his way a wee bit and needs to be fitter and that’s something he will be working on.

In the second half of last season he really showed his quality and ran the game against us in the first leg of the play off final.

My target is to get him to full fitness and a good playing weight and if we do that he is a top level championship player.

Paul can play anywhere across the midfield or behind the striker and I am delighted to be working with him again.”

Paul said :”I’ve worked with the manager before and I know his qualities. As soon as I saw the crowd here in the play off final I was desperate to come. I know quite a few of the boys here so I know there is a lot of quality in the team and I just can’t wait to get started.”

Jamie Adams signs new deal

Jamie Adams today became the latest member of Ian McCall’s promotion winning squad to commit himself to the Championship club.

Adams started 20 matches during the season and was recently voted into the SPFL League One team of the year and has signed a one year deal.

“Jamie’s story is a remarkable one. He would be a top Premier league player but for a horrendous run of injuries. He was out for two years and was then playing in the South of Scotland league.

Last season he played about 60% of our games and was voted into Team of the Year which was a fantastic achievement and shows how big a player he was for us. I have known him a long time and hes a great boy.

In the Championship next season, for his type of player, I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.”

Betfred Cup details

Betfred Cup

The SPFL can today confirm that the First Round Group Stage draw for the 2016 Betfred Cup will be conducted live on BT Sport from 7.30pm this Friday, 27 May.

The special one-off programme by the competition’s exclusive live broadcaster BT Sport will be shown live on BT Sport Europe immediately after the channel’s live UEFA Champions League Final Preview programme.

The Betfred Cup First Round Group Stage draw will be presented by BT Sport’s Derek Rae with the 40 participating teams drawn by pundits Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart.

The First Round Group Stage of the Betfred Cup features 40 teams: All 38 SPFL clubs not involved in UEFA qualifiers as well as Highland League champions Cove Rangers and new Lowland League entrants East Stirlingshire. (Edinburgh City, Lowland League champions, make their competition debut as the newest member of the SPFL).

Teams will be drawn into eight groups of five teams, on a seeded basis. Fixtures and TV selections will then be announced w/c 30 May.

In each group teams will play each other once in a round-robin format on each of 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30 July (subject to live broadcast selections). In the First Round Group Stage there are three points for a win and one point for a draw, with drawn matches in the Group Stage going straight to a penalty shoot-out and the winner of the penalty shoot-out being awarded a bonus point.

Eight First Round Group Stage winners and the four best runners-up progress to the second round, joined by the SPFL’s four UEFA qualifying clubs (Celtic, Aberdeen, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian). The competition concludes with the Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park on Sunday, 27 November.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “The new SPFL Betfred Cup marks the latest phase in the excellent relationship between BT Sport and Scottish football. BT Sport is a strong supporter of the tournament and particularly the exciting new format now developed by our SPFL partners. As such we are delighted to kick off the tournament with the first round group stage draw live from our studio this coming Friday.”

Betfred chief executive John Haddock added: “We are very excited about the new format and delighted BT Sport are showing the draw live on Friday night.”

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our valued broadcast partner BT Sport is giving such prominence to the first round group stage of the ground-breaking Betfred Cup and helping bring all the excitement of the live draw to football fans across Scotland and the rest of the UK.”

Hero Greg signs 2 year deal

Goalkeeper Greg Fleming has today penned a new two year deal with Ayr United.

Manager Ian McCall said “Greg was outstanding last season and it culminated in the way he played in the last month or so. He was consistently good throughout the season and we feel he has improved as well.

Greg played in every single match for us throughout the season and was a hugely important player. It’s easy to look at the penalties and remember him for that however he showed his class right throughout the year.

Greg is our number one goalkeeper and the jersey is his for now however we will look to sign a number two which will be good for him to have that competition. Hopefully Greg will continue in the same vein and we will have a top keeper.”

Greg said :”I am delighted to sign a new deal, especially a two year deal with the club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and the reception I have had from the fans has been fantastic. The championship is going to be a great league next season and we are all looking forward to going to a lot of different grounds and upping our game.”

Season Ticket Prices 2016/17

Prices are as follows.

ADULT – £220

OAP (65 & Over) – £120

Gate Prices 2016/17

We have reviewed our pricing for the coming season looking at the pricing for the other teams in the Championship and the need to give Ian McCall a competitive budget and have decided to increase the prices for the first time in 7 years – Somerset Park will still be the cheapest ground to visit in the Championship. We have also decided to reduce the prices for under 16s to get into matches. We are hugely looking forward to the quality of teams in the Championship visiting Somerset Park and have reduced the price for under 16s to only £5 to encourage the younger generation to come along.

Gate prices will be as follows.

CONCESSION (OAP & student) – £10

Please note for Child season tickets and Child entry to matches identification will be required.

Wardrope & McGuffie sign

Michael Wardrope and Craig McGuffie today signed a new one year deal for the 2016/17 season.

Manager Ian McCall said :”Mick was really unlucky not to get more game time towards the end of the season. Every time he played he did well. When you look at his performances there’s no doubt that he earned this new contract.

Craig has continually impressed with the under 20s and he has great natural ability. We all know that natural ability isn’t enough on its own so Craig will be given an opportunity this coming season.

It’s great to be giving contracts to two players that have come through our academy.”
